Job Description

Basic Purpose 

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment by performing routine housekeeping and custodial duties. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, stocking supplies, disposing of waste, moving furniture and equipment as needed, and supporting the overall operation of the facility while promoting the health, safety, and comfort of visitors, guests, and staff. 

Typical Job Duties

  • Sweeps, dusts, mops, scrubs, washes, vacuums, waxes, and polishes building floors, walls, woodwork, windows, furniture, and hardware. 
  • Cleans and sanitizes washrooms and bedrooms, keeps washrooms supplied with paper, towels and soap.   
  • Collects and disposes of trash and garbage. 
  • Moves equipment and furniture such as beds, tables, and chairs in order to clean effectively. 
  • Stocks housekeeping supplies.  
  • Observes and reports safety violations; actively participates in emergency situations. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support daily operations and agency needs.  

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.  

  • Some locations will require a valid Driver’s License.  

 

Special Requirements 

  • Scheduled hours will require flexibility, including holidays, weekends, or events, based on the needs of the agency.  

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.  
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist while performing housekeeping and cleaning duties.  
  • Use hands and arms regularly to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, and operate cleaning equipment and tools.  
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, with occasional assistance for heavier items.  
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed to effectively clean assigned areas.  
  • Safely climb stairs and use ladders or step stools when required.  
  • Operate housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, mops, and other cleaning tools.  
  • Work indoors and outdoors with exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, dust, cleaning chemicals, and other environmental conditions.  
  • Maintain sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to safely perform assigned duties, recognize safety hazards, and communicate effectively.
