Director, Marketing Technology – Digital Communications (Salesforce Marketing Cloud)

TORONTO, CanadaFull-timePosted Jul 29, 2026

Job Description

We are looking for a Director, Marketing Technology to lead our Salesforce Marketing Cloud practice, owning the strategy, architecture, and team responsible for our digital communications capabilities: email, push, and SMS. This role sits at the center of how we engage millions of customers every day, and it is not a maintenance mandate. We need a leader who will fundamentally rethink how the platform is used: modernizing our integration patterns, simplifying the ecosystem, and dramatically improving speed to market for the marketing operations teams we serve.

You will lead a team of technologists building the data extensions, CRM/CDP integrations, and data warehouse connections that power personalized, real-time communications at scale. You'll partner closely with marketing operations, data, and technology stakeholders to translate business needs into a platform roadmap – and you'll be accountable for delivering measurable improvements in simplicity, speed, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Part of that transformation means bringing agentic capabilities into how the team designs, builds, and operates the platform, using them to accelerate delivery, scale campaign and integration work, and free the team from repetitive, manual effort.

This is a transformation mandate; we're looking for someone who instinctively challenges the status quo and who asks, "why does it work this way?" before accepting that it has to, and uses that instinct to drive results, not just raise questions.

What You'll Do

  • Own the Salesforce Marketing Cloud practice — set the technical vision, architecture direction, and roadmap for our email, push, and SMS capabilities.

  • Lead and grow a team of technologists responsible for building and maintaining data extensions, CRM/CDP integrations, and data warehouse integrations that marketing operations teams rely on daily.

  • Reimagine the ecosystem — challenge existing patterns, retire technical debt, and design new integration approaches that make the platform faster, simpler, and more reliable to work with.

  • Challenge the status quo — question long-standing assumptions about how the platform is used and delivered and turn that scrutiny into concrete changes that drive better outcomes.

  • Embed agentic capabilities into delivery — deploy native agentic tooling and/or build agents connected to Marketing Cloud via API/MCP integrations to accelerate build, testing, and operational work across the practice, increasing speed and scale.

  • Drive measurable transformation outcomes, including reduced speed to market for campaign builds, simplified data and integration architecture, and improved satisfaction among business and technical stakeholders.

  • Manage business partner relationships across marketing operations, data/CDP teams, and broader technology, acting as the primary technical voice and escalation point for the Marketing Cloud practice.

  • Own project and operational budgets, including vendor spend, resourcing, and prioritization trade-offs across a multi-workstream roadmap.

  • Establish standards and governance for data extension design, integration patterns, and platform usage to ensure scalability, security, and maintainability.

  • Represent Marketing Technology in senior stakeholder forums, translating platform capabilities and constraints into business impact, and business priorities into technical direction.

  • Coach and develop your team, building deep Marketing Cloud expertise and a culture oriented toward continuous improvement rather than steady-state operations.

What Do you need to Succeed?

Must Have

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including deep, practical knowledge of data extensions, journey/automation design, and channel delivery for email, push, and SMS.

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications required (e.g., Email Specialist, Developer, Administrator)

  • 4–5 years leading a team of engineers, developers, or technologists in a technology or marketing technology function.

  • 4–5 years managing business partners, project budgets, and operational budgets, with a track record of balancing competing priorities across stakeholder groups.

  • A proven track record of transformation — you can point to specific examples of modernizing a platform, simplifying an architecture, or fundamentally changing how a tool was used, not just keeping it running. You've challenged the status quo in a prior role and can show the results it produced.

  • Experience with agile delivery, including measuring and improving team velocity, delivery predictability, and other delivery health metrics.

  • Experience using agentic capabilities to accelerate delivery — either through native agentic tooling within Marketing Cloud, or through building agents and connecting them to Marketing Cloud via API/MCP integrations.

  • Experience integrating Marketing Cloud with CDPs (e.g., Tealium, Adobe Real-Time CDP, Amplitude, or equivalent) and data warehouse platforms.

  • Experience operating in a large, regulated, or highly complex enterprise environment (financial services experience an asset).

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior business and technology partners.

  • A bias toward simplification — a demonstrated instinct for reducing complexity rather than adding to it.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with real-time personalization or Next Best Action / decisioning platforms.

  • Experience in banking, insurance, or another highly regulated industry.
