Project & Portfolio Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The IT Portfolio and Project Leader provides coordination and leadership for assigned projects and portfolio management activities. The incumbent supports the planning, execution, monitoring, and closing of projects while assisting with the governance, prioritization, reporting, and management of the broader portfolio of initiatives. The role partners with business stakeholders, Project Sponsors, and IT leadership to ensure projects align with strategic objectives, deliver business value, and effectively utilize available resources. The incumbent will have demonstrated project leadership capabilities and contribute to portfolio planning and continuous improvement efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES (DUTIES) OF POSITION:
Understand the business problems and strategic objectives being addressed by projects and portfolio initiatives by working with Project Sponsors, business stakeholders, and customers. Assist in defining and maintaining portfolio governance processes, prioritization criteria, and performance measures. Coordinate project planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closing activities for assigned projects and sub-projects. Support portfolio intake, demand management, project evaluation, and prioritization activities. Develop, maintain, and report project and portfolio status, schedules, risks, issues, financial performance, benefits realization, and resource utilization. Coordinate acquisition and assignment of project resources including personnel, funding, equipment, materials, and time. Facilitate communications with Project Sponsors, functional leadership, project teams, customers, and portfolio stakeholders. Monitor project and portfolio performance against established objectives, budgets, timelines, and key performance indicators. Identify risks, dependencies, resource constraints, and opportunities across projects and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Support portfolio reviews, governance meetings, business case development, investment planning, and executive reporting activities. Contribute to process improvement initiatives and promote adoption of project and portfolio management best practices. Close all open issues, document lessons learned, capture benefits achieved, and transition completed deliverables to operational support organizations as agreed with the Project Sponsor.
RELEVANT TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE PERTAINING TO POSITION:
- Project management skills and familiarity with project and portfolio management methodologies and tools.
- Working knowledge of office products (MS Office, Teams, SharePoint).
- Understanding of portfolio management disciplines including demand management, prioritization, governance, financial planning, resource management, and benefits realization.
- Knowledge of project management principles including planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, risk management, and change control.
- Experience with project management and portfolio management software such as ServiceNow SPM, Microsoft Project.
- Ability to analyze information and prepare executive-level presentations, dashboards, and performance reports.
- Ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and facilitate decision-making across matrixed organizations.
EDUCATION:
- A 4-Year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline is preferred.
- Equivalent IT work experience may be considered.
- Candidates must be holding (or actively pursuing) a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM),
- Additional certifications in Portfolio Management, Agile, Scrum, ServiceNow SPM, or related disciplines are considered a plus
EXPERIENCE:
- 7+ years of Project Planning, project leadership, project management, portfolio management, Budgeting, Risk Management, Conflict Management and Prioritization experience in technology domain.
- Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects and coordinating activities across business and IT organizations.
- Experience preparing project and portfolio performance reporting, governance materials, and executive communications.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.

- The ability to work effectively with project teams, business stakeholders, and matrixed organizations impacted by projects and portfolio initiatives is necessary.
- The ability to work in autonomy following a structured Enterprise Project Management Governance
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and facilitation skills are required.
- The ability to balance competing priorities and support enterprise-wide strategic objectives is essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are preferred.
- Experience with IT governance, investment planning, and portfolio management processes is a plus.\
