Patient Financial Services Manager (SOM OB GYN General Administration)
We are seeking a Patient Financial Services Manager who will oversee the initial patient financial processes before service delivery, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and a positive patient experience. This role typically supervises front-end financial counselors and coordinates financial clearance activities such as pre-registration, payer authorization, insurance verification, benefits validation, and patient financial counseling.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead front-end financial clearance functions by directing pre-registration, payer authorization, and financial counseling to ensure timely and accurate patient information collection.
- Supervise staff by overseeing recruitment, training, competency, coaching, and performance evaluations for the financial clearance team members.
- Ensure compliance by maintaining adherence to HIPAA, accreditation standards, payer requirements, and internal policies.
- Operational oversight to manage end-to-end pre-arrival workflows, including eligibility verification, medical necessity, financial assistance, price estimation, and pre-service collections.
- Revenue cycle optimization in identifying and implementing process improvements to reduce denials, prevent revenue leakage, and improve productivity.
- Collaborate across departments to work with Patient Access, Clinic leadership, Pre-authorization, Billing, and other stakeholders to standardize processes and resolve revenue cycle issues.
- Performance monitoring in developing KPIs and benchmarks to track quality, timeliness, and financial outcomes.
- Enhance patient experience by improving the patient experience and satisfaction by efficiently managing and resolving service-related inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Five years of related experience in revenue cycle, with progressive leadership experience in pre-registration, authorization, financial counseling, and billing.
- Technical skill - Proficiency with revenue cycle systems (e.g., Epic Registration and Billing), data analysis, and process optimization tools.
- Soft skills - Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to coach and mentor.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
