Software Development Engineers - JP Manga, Amazon Japan
Tokyo, JapanFull-timePosted Aug 4, 2026
Ready to shape how fans in Japan discover, read, and obsess over their next favorite manga? Join our JP Manga team in our Tokyo office, where we build the digital experiences that connect manga lovers with the content they love across mobile and web.
We're investing heavily in the reading experience for the next generation of manga readers, and mobile is at the center of it. That means building rich, engagement-driven, customer-facing software (discovery, reading, personalization, and more) with the craft and performance bar of an app customers open every day. We're early and moving fast. As a key member of the team, you'll build the experiences that connect manga lovers with their next obsession.
This is an entry-level role for a new or recent graduate who loves building for mobile. You'll write real, customer-facing code from day one, learn native craft in iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin) – or React Native with native fundamentals – and grow alongside experienced mobile engineers who will mentor you. We're looking for curious builders who get energized seeing their work reach customers.
At Amazon, you'll work alongside the latest AI and GenAI tools that are increasingly woven into how teams operate: from AI-powered capabilities that accelerate decision-making, to Generative AI that helps you focus on work that truly matters. You'll have opportunities and resources to develop AI fluency at your own pace, with continuous learning built into the culture.
Key job responsibilities
• Contribute to customer-facing features for our mobile app – discovery surfaces, the personal library, search and browse, and the reading experience – with guidance and code review from experienced engineers.
• Write clean, well-tested code, learning to build for performance, reliability, and maintainability on experiences customers open every day.
• Use AI-powered development tools across your day-to-day work, including code generation, test authoring, review, debugging, and documentation. We build with modern AI-assisted tooling.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews, and contribute to technical documentation.
• Partner with backend engineers to integrate your features with our services and data flows.
• Collaborate with cross-functional, geographically diverse teams (PM, UX, backend, and partner tech teams) through design, delivery, and support.
• Help maintain operational excellence: fixing bugs, improving observability, keeping CI/CD healthy, and taking part in on-call responsibilities as you ramp.
A day in the life
In this role you will:
• Help keep things healthy: fix bugs, improve observability, and keep CI green on the surfaces you work on.
• Write and test Swift and/or Kotlin for features that manga fans across Japan use every day.
• Build customer-facing UI with modern frameworks (SwiftUI/UIKit, Jetpack Compose, or React Native) and, with guidance, make it feel fast and intuitive alongside UX.
• Wire your features to backend services and reading data, handling loading, empty, and offline states with care.
• Use AI-assisted tools to move faster on coding, tests, review, and debugging.
• Take part in design and code reviews, sharpening your craft with experienced mobile engineers.
