Business Development Officer - Commercial Banking
Overview:
Responsible for originating, structuring, and closing asset-based loans within the assigned territory. Facilitate cross-selling ancillary products and services and will actively participate in business organizations to remain highly involved in target markets.
Primary Responsibilities:
Generates and qualifies asset-based lending prospects through external, internal, and direct channel calling activities.
Maintains a priority sales prospect and referral source calling program.
Prepares internal screening memo outlining transactions, communicates with internal credit team to structure and propose on transactions.
Presents proposal to prospects, negotiates and wins transactions, follows sales process through closing.
Collaborate with Commercial Bankers to meet the needs of the Bank’s clients.
Manages contact activity database in a timely manner, to include prospects in the sales process for periodic reporting purposes.
participates in team meetings to communicate market conditions.
Participate in networking functions and events, business, and community organizations to maintain high visibility in the market and maintain strong working relationships to enhance the organization’s lending relationship.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 7 years of relationship management or new business development experience or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum 11 years’ higher education and work experience, to include 7 years’ experience of relationship management or new business development experience.
Excellent PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and internal software
Excellent written, verbal, negotiation and presentation skills are needed to achieve sales objectives in a professional environment.
Excellent analytical skills to identify business opportunities in a highly competitive and fast paced environment.
Demonstrates high ethical standards and personal integrity to build credibility and trust and to enhance the organization’s reputation in the lending community.
Maintains extensive understanding of all commercial products offered in the market and keeps informed of all relevant industry trends and practices.
Share knowledge and skill and participate in formal training of junior staff members.
