R&D- Technician II

The Automotive Finishes Division Technician II position is responsible for supporting development of innovative technologies & products and completing activities related to maintenance of business within the Vehicle Refinish Toner segment of the business.  

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company’s staff, employees, and business relationships.

This role will be located at Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141. 

  • Works alongside chemists to contribute to on time project goals, including but not limited to sample preparation, sprayouts, and testing.
  • Maintains strong communication with team members and group leader.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of experiments, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Comply with test methods according to set standards.
  • Document all formulation processes.
  • Function with sustained supervision and write simple reports, outlining procedures used and the results obtained.
  • Complete proper forms and documents when necessary.
  • Attend quality, safety, technical meetings and seminars as necessary.  
  • Comply with all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area.
  • Communicate with internal as well as external customers.
  • Manage work in accordance of timeline goals. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.  
  • At least 6 months of industrial lab experience.  
  • Knowledge of basic math skills
  • Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis using Microsoft Software Applications  Knowledge of basic coating concepts and property calculations.
  • Working knowledge of basic lab equipment  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in non-STEM major
  • 1 or more years of experience in a laboratory
  • 1 or more years of experience in coatings industry
  • Knowledge of basic coating process, milling equipment, coating application
  • Knowledge of ASTM/ISO test methods
