YOU

You want to be an important member of a strong team of other makers who take pride in their work and support each other. As a Middle/ Senior Mechanical Engineer (Product Development), you will be responsible for collaborating directly with our global stakeholders (US, EU, Canada, etc.) to research and develop Simpson Strong-Tie products.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Support Product Research & Development (R&D) for Various Markets

  • Design and develop mechanical product concepts and prototypes to drive new product development for the concrete Anchors, structural Connectors, Fasteners, test devices, and safety system markets.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards, tailoring designs to European regulations (such as ETA/EAD and Eurocodes) or US standards (ASME, ASTM, AWS…).
  • Lead the full R&D lifecycle by conducting feasibility studies, 3D modeling, advanced engineering calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Manage testing coordination, design iterations, and continuous improvement initiatives in close collaboration with European and global teams.

Material & Manufacturing Expertise

  • Optimize designs by applying deep knowledge of metallurgy, heat-treatment, and surface-treatment processes (e.g., quenching, tempering, annealing, case hardening, nitriding, galvanizing/coating).
  • Select and justify steel grades for specific applications and critically interpret complex material test reports.
  • Utilize advanced Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles across a broad range of processes (milling, turning, etc.) to identify cost drivers, propose value-engineering solutions, and balance technical performance against production costs.
  • Leverage familiarity with specialized manufacturing methods, such as thread rolling for anchors/fasteners and progressive-die stamping for sheet metal connectors (a strong plus).

Product Calculation

  • Provide core engineering support for new and existing products, including preliminary and advanced product structural calculations, competitor product benchmarking comparisons, and the creation of standardized calculation templates.

Testing & Analysis

  • Coordinate and support rigorous laboratory product testing activities, including test planning, establishing the DoE, experimental test data analysis, and technical test reports for product validation.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support product mechanical performance, load capacity, durability, and reliability under various real-world failure modes.

Technical leadership & mentoring

  • Act as a technical reference point for the team, reviewing designs and calculations, sharing know-how, and mentoring fresher engineers.
  • Represent the engineering perspective directly to international stakeholders and help shape best practices, tools, and workflows.

Other tasks as assigned by Line Manager.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (At least 2 years’ proven working experience in mechanical design, material proposal and approval)
  • Experience or coursework in CAD modeling (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar software preferred).
  • Well-organized, diligent, and responsible with an aptitude in problem-solving.
  • Crystal clear language in English-speaking skills. English proficiency equivalent to Level B2 of the CEFR or above (TOEIC 700, or IELTS 6.0). Knowing German or French is a plus.
  • Familiarity with programing (Python, Illogic, VBA, C / C++...) or CAD Automation is a plus
  • Having passion in general engineering, structural designs, or research fields is an advantage.
  • Creative and innovative mindset, with a willingness to explore new ideas to improve products, testing methods, or engineering tools.
