R&D Engineer I

About this role:

At Boston Scientific, our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. In Interventional Oncology (IO) we design, develop, and produce technologies for diagnosing and treating cancer as well as other conditions in the abdominal region, including gastric bleeds, uterine fibroids, and aneurysms. We have a robust product line and pipeline, and we will continue to make an investment in Interventional Oncology treatments. The employee will be working in new product development teams to advance the designs, materials, processes, and commercialization of medical devices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Fully participate in and successfully contribute to project teams typically including the following activities: product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, report preparation, and process/test documentation
  • Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines
  • Design and coordinate standard engineering tests and experiments
  • Design, procure, and fabricate tooling and fixtures
  • Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process
  • Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from test results
  • Prepare standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community
  • Responsible for engineering documentation
  • Invent/create concepts and designs for new products/processes; submit idea disclosures
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians
  • Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing to ensure project success
  • Develop and demonstrate TDP/PPD system knowledge through delivery of high quality deliverables

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization
  • 3 months experience in Interventional Oncology Research and Development
  • Prior internship experience with Boston Scientific
  • Written protocols and/or reports that represent the scientific method and drive innovation
  • Performed evaluation experiments for TheraSphere in the commercial space for US and Japan microcatheters.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical device design and/or process experience
  • Desire for leadership with traits of being an independent thinker, a self-starter, and a strong communicator
  • Strong engineering aptitude with a creative, unbiased approach to problem solving
  • Works well in a team-oriented environment, can contribute and learn from others to arrive at the best solution

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
