We are seeking a Supplier Development Engineer to support the expansion and qualification of our European supply base for Build-to-Print (BTP) components and mechanical assemblies. The successful candidate will use strong manufacturing expertise, particularly in CNC machining processes, to identify, assess, qualify, and develop suppliers capable of meeting Applied Materials' requirements for quality, cost, delivery, and technology.
The role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Sourcing, NPI, and Supplier Quality teams to drive supplier capability improvements, design-for-manufacturability initiatives, and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with other functions to ensure manufacturing requirements are clearly defined and communicated to suppliers.
- Support Manufacturability reviews with suppliers and provide manufacturing expertise, to optimize cost, quality, and lead time.
- Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop new suppliers throughout Europe to support strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Conduct supplier capability assessments, technical evaluations, and on-site audits to determine manufacturing readiness.
- Assess suppliers' CNC machining capabilities, including equipment, processes, tooling strategies, fixturing, programming methodologies, capacity, and process controls.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to improve quality, delivery, productivity, and cost competitiveness.
- Lead technical discussions with suppliers regarding machining methods, process optimization, tolerancing, GD&T interpretation, and special process requirements.
- Support sourcing and purchasing teams during supplier selection and qualification activities.
- Drive root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Evaluate alternative manufacturing technologies and process improvements to reduce cost and improve product quality and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering (mechanical preferable)
- 5–10 years of manufacturing within CNC machining environments.
- Strong understanding of Build-to-Print (BTP) manufacturing processes.
- Deep knowledge of CNC milling, turning, Multi-axis machining, including CNC controlling and programming, tooling and fixturing; machining process capability; Surface treatments and coating.
- Experience with machined components, precision mechanical parts, fabricated components, and assemblies.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Can participate in most work-related discussions and explain opinions in English in simple terms.
- Ability to influence suppliers and cross-functional teams without direct authority.

NoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
