About the Role
Lead one of the most important engineering organizations at Fluke Health Solutions. As Director, Software Engineering at our India Development Center, you will own the strategy, delivery, quality, and technical health of our myLDR digital dosimetry platform and the broader Beyond the Badge SaaS portfolio (LDRA, RadFacts Signature Suite, ALARA Service, and Subscription Center). This is a leader-of-leaders role: you will lead through managers and senior engineers, be accountable for the results of multiple related teams, and set the sub-functional strategy, operating plan, and budget for engineering at IDC.
Our IDC engineering team delivers four quarterly “Flights” (releases) per year on 13-week cycles and has more than doubled throughput over the last two years while holding headcount flat. You will build on that momentum — setting technical and organizational direction, driving predictable delivery, deep customer obsession, AI-accelerated engineering, and a high-performing, engaged culture at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Organizational Leadership
- Own the engineering strategy and multi-team operating plan for the myLDR / Beyond the Badge portfolio at IDC, aligning capacity and investment to the product roadmap and business priorities.
- Lead through managers and senior technical leaders across multiple related teams; build organizational structure, succession, and a strong leadership bench.
- Set and manage the departmental headcount plan; make resourcing and prioritization trade-offs that balance growth, scale, and operational risk.
- Represent IDC engineering to executive stakeholders, product, and cross-OpCo partners; translate strategy into measurable commitments and outcomes.
Delivery & Operational Excellence
- Own on-time, high-quality delivery of quarterly Flights across all teams, managing committed and overflow backlog to protect release predictability (Flight OTD, Sprint OTD, BML OTD).
- Ensure myLDR system operations meet defined SW metrics (e.g., P90 < 2 seconds, zero customer-impacting UI/API errors) and drive rapid MTTR on S1/S2 incidents.
- Reduce escaped defects to Production and QA, and strengthen engineering quality through code coverage, in-sprint and overall test automation targets.
Technical Leadership
- Partner with the Principal Architect to follow technical direction and standards across teams — architecture decisions, tech-stack modernization, technical-debt reduction, and SPD/security & compliance aligned to Fortive standards.
- Govern engineering-capacity allocation across Business Enablers, Direct Revenue Generation, Keep-the-Lights-On, and Security/Privacy/Compliance to ensure investment drives measurable business impact.
- Champion adoption of AI-assisted development (e.g., Copilot) and automation to increase throughput and cycle-time, with clear enablement and measurable ROI.
People & Culture
- Develop, coach, and retain managers and senior engineers; drive a culture of extreme ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Sustain and improve team engagement scores; create an environment where team members feel valued, heard, and empowered to own outcomes.
- Develop departmental plans — business, production, and organizational priorities — and adapt them to resolve challenges across the organization.
Customer & Business Impact
- Partner with Product Management to translate the Beyond the Badge roadmap into executable, ROI-prioritized delivery across global markets (US, UK, Canada, Australia).
- Deliver financial performance goals and contribute to revenue growth, churn reduction, and internal efficiencies.
- Apply Fortive Business System (FBS) tools and lead Kaizen as a way of life to drive continuous improvement in delivery and quality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 15+ years in software engineering, including 8+ years in engineering leadership; proven experience as a leader of leaders (managing managers and/or multiple teams).
- Track record of setting engineering strategy and delivering production SaaS releases at scale in an Agile/Scrum environment, with strong command of delivery metrics and quality engineering.
- Solid technical depth across modern web/cloud architectures, CI/CD, test automation, and system performance/reliability.
- Experience owning budgets, headcount planning, and organizational design for globally distributed teams; strong partnership across product, QA, support, security, and commercial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, medical devices) and with security/compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2).
- Hands-on experience adopting AI/ML-enabled engineering tools and driving measurable productivity gains.
- Familiarity with cloud cost optimization (AWS/Azure) and platform modernization.
Key Skills & Competencies (Fortive 9)
- Customer Obsessed — works deeply to understand customer needs and creates solutions that matter.
- Strategic & Innovate for Impact — brings a disciplined mindset to create value today and build for the future.
- Build Extraordinary Teams — authentic and humble in supporting teams to perform at their best.
- Courageous & Deliver Results — faces problems head-on and wins by getting the right things done.
