Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Health Research Analyst / Biostatistician to provide advanced statistical and analytical expertise in support of national chronic disease surveillance, public health research, and population health initiatives.

 

The qualified individual provides advanced statistical and analytical support for national chronic disease surveillance systems, health survey programs, and public health research initiatives. The role serves as a senior statistical resource responsible for complex survey design, data analysis, chronic disease epidemiology research, and methodological support for web-enabled analytic tools and chronic disease indicator portals. The incumbent analyzes large-scale datasets (e.g., BRFSS, NHIS, NHANES, health care claims), leads research development, and translates statistical findings into actionable public health insights.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and analyze national behavioral and chronic disease surveillance systems data.
  • Conceptualize, design, and develop research proposals, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and analytical studies focused on chronic diseases and risk behaviors.
  • Provide expert statistical consultation on study design, sampling strategies, power calculations, and appropriate analytic methods for multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Mentor junior statisticians in conceptual proposal development, statistical methods, and data analysis best practices.
  • Apply advanced analytic techniques including complex survey weighting (raking, trimming, split-sample weighting), logistic and multiple regression, life table analysis, small-area estimation, and multi-level modeling.
  • Manage, merge, edit, clean, validate, and document large-scale public health datasets.
  • Prepare statistical reports, technical summaries, and scientific communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences and serve as a subject matter expert on epidemiology and surveillance methods

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years with Masters degree.
  • Progressive experience in health statistics, epidemiological research, and public health surveillance.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing national health survey datasets.
  • Extensive experience with complex survey design, dual-frame sampling, multi-mode weighting, and split-sample weighting.
  • Advanced proficiency in SAS; working knowledge of R and Python.
  • Experience with REDCap or similar systems.
  • Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts to non-statistical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with public health professionals and multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Green Card Holder.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required agency clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior CDC and Public Health experience.
  • Experience with public health systems (BRFSS, Chronic Disease Indicators Portal, and WEAT data submissions).
  • Expertise with SAS/SUDAAN for complex survey analysis.
  • Experience with small-area estimation techniques and disparities research.
  • Experience with web-enabled analytic tools and data visualization platforms.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
