About this Role

An Underground Boring General Foreman at Irby Construction Company is a senior field supervisor who manages multiple underground utility, trenchless technology, and directional drilling crews. They bridge the gap between project managers and field workers to ensure operations run safely, efficiently, and on schedule. These job openings are for Orlando and the surrounding areas.

What You'll Do

  • Crew Management: Supervise and coordinate multiple bore and utility crews to synchronize labor, heavy equipment, and company priorities.
  • Project Oversight: Manage the execution of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and auger boring operations according to blueprints and utility specifications.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce OSHA standards and company HSE (Health, Safety, & Environmental) policies to protect workers and prevent utility strikes.
  • Quality Assurance: Verify bore paths, oversee drilling mud/fluid mixtures, and ensure the correct installation of conduits and pipes.
  • Administrative Duties: Review daily production reports, complete bore logs, manage equipment maintenance, and coordinate Dig Safe/811 utility markings. [
  • Resource Logistics: Order necessary materials, track job progress, and communicate with clients, engineers, and project managers

 

General Duties

  • Accountable for quality of work to ensure that it is being performed according to specifications.
  • Visit crews and monitor their safety, quality, & production.
  • Assist the crew in coordination of major project activities
  • Attend all required project meetings with Owner as needed.
  • Assist with updating schedules and/or progress reports.
  • Verify that as-builts & progress charts are maintained.
  • Have a good line of communication with inspector.
  • Arrange and/or participate in weekly foremen meetings (review if not attending).
  • Arrange and/or participate in monthly safety meetings (review if not attending).
  • Participate in monthly job safety review meetings.
  • Accountable for cost, progress and schedule for duration of project.
  • Accountable for compliance with safety program and review all accidents.
  • Follow up on any complaints (from owner, general public, or landowners).

 

What You'll Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive trade experience in horizontal directional drilling, trenching, and underground utility installation required.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage multiple teams, resolve field conflicts, and train crew members.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read/interpret job prints, perform math (e.g., calculating pipe angles and bore setbacks), and operate or troubleshoot heavy equipment.
  • Certifications: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class A) and relevant industry Operator Qualifications (OQs) are frequently required.
